We have finally arrived at the part of the book that answers the question, “So now that I am familiar with the thinking and action processes of both research traditions and their integration, how do I use this learning to improve my own practice and contribute to practice knowledge?” We now depart from the conceptual framework that we have used throughout the book to locate experimental-type, naturalistic, and mixed methods of research in the larger context of practice examination, efficacy, and our own practice experience. In Part V, we examine specific professional applications of what you have studied throughout the text.
Because case study has been used as a method to evaluate the process and outcome of professional health and human service intervention, we include it here to illustrate an important way to apply inquiry to individuals and groups as single units of focus.
As you enter Part V, congratulate yourself on your learning, and see what research can be all about in your health and human service practice.
