Introduction

The following chapters will help you to apply key areas of learning to extended clinical case studies and challenging situations. You will be encouraged to test your knowledge throughout this section and consider the scenarios from the perspectives of all the people involved. It will also give examples of challenges students commonly experience in mental health placements. You will be prompted to use the knowledge you have gained from this book, the recommended reading and your placement experiences to consider how you might respond to each of these case studies and situations. You may want to discuss the scenarios with your peers, mentor or personal tutor to gain their perspectives and advice. There is not necessarily a right or wrong answer to the issues raised in this section. However, you should draw upon the theory, skills and extended reading identified in this book along with your experiences in practice to inform your responses.
